Does Technological Innovation Reduce Environmental Degradation? Evidence from China

Developed and developing countries are trying to achieve sustainable growth in the present era. Unfortunately, despite being world’s largest country, China is among those that have a high ecological footprint as it emits 27% of global carbon emissions 2021. However, encouraging fact has become an emerging economy due technological advancement. Many existing studies suggested innovation can overcome environmental degradation. Therefore, this study examines whether reduced degradation from 1985 2018. This uses measure China. Furthermore, also explores role economic growth, trade openness, population on environment. To estimate models, ARDL cointegration technique applied, findings further validated using CCR, DOLS, FMOLS, Granger causality techniques.
